To dramatically boost your health and experience a sense of grounding try this standing meditation exercise. Take off your shoes and socks and stand with your feet shoulder’s width apart (try standing on natural ground if you can). Now extend your arms slightly out in front of your body with your hands just below your belly button (like this picture except with your wrists about hip height). Have your palms facing each other and your elbows slightly bent. Begin by taking a slow and deep breath, feeling as if you are breathing all the way down to your feet. Next become aware of your feet and let them relax into the ground. Slightly bend your knees and allow your sacrum/tailbone to drop down towards the earth. Gradually straighten your spine, feeling your head lifting to the sky. Relax your shoulders and buttocks.
Continue to breath slowly and deeply, drawing the breath all the way down into you’re your lower belly. As you exhale release mental stress and physical tension. This is a Standing Qigong Meditation from the Chinese internal martial arts. Your body becomes like a human antenna in this posture, which facilitates the flow of healthy vital life-force energy (Chi). Try this exercise for about 5-10 minutes (adept practitioners work all the way up to 60 minutes) and see what begins to happen. If you feel warmth, tingling or an electro-magnetic sensation in your arms or hands this is a good sign … your Chi is starting to flow.
I have a new Qigong DVD coming out very soon. There are some very specific nuances that make this type of exercise an extremely effective method for increasing your health. The DVD breaks down the nuances showing you exactly how to make this form of mind-body healing work for you. I’ll post a link on the blog when its ready to be shipped.
Warmly,
Tristan
