Happy New Year!
Tristan

Statistics show that 50% of American adults make at least ONE New Year’s resolution each year. However, 97% of them are not kept. In fact, 64% of them are broken within the first month. You’re probably not surprised by that. But are you surprised to learn that it doesn’t HAVE to be that way? If you understand how your brain functions you can use the way it works to HELP you change your life instead of trying to use brute force.
Trying to use will power and discipline to make a change in your life is absolutely the worst way to achieve any sort of lasting change because you are trying to use your conscious mind. Your conscious mind is responsible for only 2-4% of your day-to-day actions and perceptions.
At a subconscious level, you have established certain habits and beliefs that the subconscious mind uses as set points to keep you and your life in exactly the same place. It works exactly like the thermostat in your home that automatically picks up any change in room temperature and then makes corrections to bring everything back into your comfort zone. Your internal set points act like “cybernetic triggers” in your brain that detect any change from your current situation — no matter what is — and it overrides your will power and forces you to act or respond in the way that you always have. That’s why you see the same results over and over… because they come from the same thought patterns and behavioral patterns.
These automatic triggers cause you to rationalize why you’re not sticking with your diet or new income plan and basically forces you to revert back to your habits and patterns. When broken into two words, the word “rationalize” really means “rational-lies”. Internal self-talk is just one tool of your subconscious to get your behavior or your life back in line with your mental image of what it should be. It’s automatic. Its job is to keep you in your “comfort zone” — even though it’s not what you actually want.
All of this means that once any image, habit or belief is ingrained in your subconscious brain you seek out and behave automatically with everything that resonates with that “internal image.” If you currently don’t like the results you are witnessing with your weight, job, income or relationships, you must break the old patterns and old conditioning that’s causing them.
Studies conducted by NASA have shown that it takes at least 30-60 days to re-train your brain’s neural pathways. That’s also the average time it takes to change a subconscious habit or belief. So, this year, why not resolve to change the one thing that you CAN change? Your own mental image of yourself and your life! Resolve that for the next 30-60 days you will re-train your brain and create a better mental image for your life — one that is in line with who you WANT TO BE and THE LIFE YOU WANT TO LIVE!
